Hello all!
I hope this doesn't sound stupid but I'm having significant issues trying to get a server both running AND accessible.
The Server ProblemI've tried to set a server up via the Server GUI. And I can get it up and running without any
recognisable error. The whole thing seems to work fine, in fact - right up until I try to connect to it.
What happens is that the program says it's 'locating server' and then says, in pretty red lettering,
Failed to connect to game server... which frankly isn't real helpful.
I found this page:
http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/traipse/Running_your_own_Server in the online manual and one would presume it's ideal but there are... Issues.
Firstly, I'm not running Grumpy Goblin. I'm running Ornery Orc. But I can't find Ornery Orc instructions and I can't seem to make Traipse install as Grumpy Goblin. This is due to another problem I'll list below.
The server_ini.xml file it mentions is non-existent. There
is a default_server_ini.xml in the System/orpg/templates directory so I've tried moving this to the System/myfiles directory and renaming it server_ini.xml; I've also tried it without that file at all. Neither fixes the problem.
I've opened the port on my router and firewall. So I know it's not that. I've made double sure by checking the port through
http://www.canyouseeme.org/ so I know it's accessible.
The kicker is: I CAN connect to the server by using localhost:6774 but not via the IP address. Soooooo I know the server CAN be connected to but unless I have a huge urge to play with myself it's not going to help get my players on the server.
Has anyone else had this irksome issue? Can anyone shed some light on what I might be doing wrong? I run Windows Vista (don't hate me).
Another thought I had......was to set up a server on a remote host, like Dreamhost, to have a permanent server placed that I can access at a whim. Is this possible or is this software set to run specifically from a domestic machine?
Orc Vs GoblinThe other... quirk that I've noticed is that I don't seem to be able to use the Update Manager - at all. It opens fine. But it won't DO anything. The Finish button is greyed, the Update Now button does nothing. Package Select will let me select a package (oddly enough) but it doesn't apply it or make either the Update Now button do anything when clicked, nor does it ungrey the Finish button. Anyone got any ideas why? Is this how it normally behaves when it's up to date and am I panicking over nothing or are my OpenRPG days dooooooomed?
