Post I need some instruction.
Recently some of my World of Warcraft friends stated they could not find a D&D game to play in locally and I decided to hunt for a Virtual Table since we are from all around the country. I found you guys and the program is really neat so far.

I need/want to know a few things to get things rolling.

1. Is there a tutorial for either player or GM for me to follow?
2. How do I create a character sheet for my players to input info. Or is there a 3.5 D&D character sheet I can upload to the VT.
3. How do I upload my maps and such that I scan into my computer.

I apologize for the ignorance but everywhere I look things seem incomplete or out of date. I found some d&d stuff at the old site but it wouldn't download saying it couldn't find the stream.

I am pretty sure I have the how to name yourself thing down along with the dice roller but need to test with players before I am more comfortable.

Thank you for making and supporting this program, as I hope to get great use out of it.

1. The Traipse Beta has the best documented User Manual node you can find. The biggest problem I would forsee is getting around the learning curve of updating to Beta. I do have clear steps here: http://www.knowledgearcana.com//content/view/200/127/

Until wiki and the user manual node become one this is what I have on the net: http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/traipse/User_Manual

2. There is a 3.5 D&D Character sheet on all OpenRPG versions. The Traipse Beta (again, I know) adds new text syntaxes with the provided sheets so data referencing can be easier.

3. You can use the Remote Image server or you can use the CherryPy plugin, or you can even host the images on the internet and load them from there.

I hope this helps. :geek:

1. there is an old tutorial here. This is for an older version but generally a lot of it is close enough to still be good. ( yes we need a new one )
http://openrpg.wrathof.com/cmps_index.php?pageid=FAQ

2. Have you tried the character sheet here?
http://openrpg.wrathof.com/index.php

3. I find the best way to upload maps is to host it on either photobucket or image shack. once you have it there copy the direct link.
in openrpg click on the background tab under the map.
on the left hand bottom side of the map you will see a drop down menu set this to image.
paste the direct link into the box next to the menu then hit apply the map should appear shortly thereafter.
once this is done right click on the map and pick save map.
now whenever you want to load the map just right click on the map and pick load map and select the map you want.
you can also load miniatures onto the map and save them in place or save the map in the middle of an adventure and come back to it latter.

I also forgot there is a character tool in openrpg though I have never used it there is one for 3 and 3.5.

In the gametree you should have a file called OpenRPG +1.7.1 ( if you don't have it then right click on the gametree and pick insert features node )
open the openrpg file
open where it says templates
now open where it says tools
double click the 3.5 tool ( this will insert a file called DnD 3.5 character into the game tree )
the 3rd ed tool actually has instruction with it so you might want to take a look at it first to get the general idea.

I would also say that you could join an OpenRPG gaming group or look at one. There are several that have servers up and they will often have some contact info on the page that gets displayed when you connect to their server. You can use their server even without joining the group of course (well-- read the blurb to make sure but I think none say they are private -- if they were why bother to register with the public servers list?). For example the Mayhem server has an associated forum here:

http://s9.zetaboards.com/Mayhem_Gaming/index/

But this is a good place for questions too.

Maybe on the OpenRPG web page. I made a new one that fixes some problems. I tested it on Windows XP and Windows Vista through my Virtual Machine and it installed. Let me send you to the Traipse Repository page: http://traipse.assembla.com

Be sure and read the Known Issues. The file is in the Files tab.

I acutally need to talk to Chris about the page on the OpenRPG site. It is a little confusing to some users.

Thanks for that the link is working. Ok I had some time to fiddle with things and pass it on to a couple friends.

I think the 3.5 character sheet thing is really cool, I love being able to enter my characters stats etc. and be able to right click to get rolls.

I will be the gm, is there a way for me to see the other players character sheets? Is this function inside the program? Or do I have to have them find the file then email it to me?

Thanks for all your help
Frelian

In future releases PC data will be available on the map with a right click on their miniature. That has not been implemented in Traipse stable, or even Alpha or Beta.

Your players can right click on their PC Sheet in the game tree and then click Send to Player, and then send you the node. So they don't need to find the file to send it to you.
