Post Hiya
I just downloaded OpenRPG and Python 2.6.2, and i've been trying to figure out how to work OpenRPG and all the weird server stuff.

I've seen 2 people playing a game of Infinitron using OpenRPG here:

http://www.zachtronicsindustries.com/im ... nitron.pdf
(At the bottom of the guide)

And i'm wondering how I create the little creatures.

Also, when i go to browse servers, I don't know how to join them or create rooms or anything.

There isn't much of a tutorial on how to actually work OpenRPG aswell, which is really frustrating.

On the bottom right of the OpenRPG screen, it has player list, what's that for?

On the left of the screen it says game tree, and it has Behir > Details > Name, HD, Speed and stuff. What is all of that stuff for?

I'm not that great at writing forum posts, so if you can just bear with me and answer this stuff, um, yeah.

I am not sure if you downloaded the Traipse version or not, but the two are not much different. My wiki should help: http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/traipse/User_Manual

Keep in mind I am still writing it.

I highly recommend it. I have what may be the final Alpha available for download and it has some really awesome features!!

This page will teach you a little about using the Update Manager and guide you through the process of getting the current Beta, but you can replace Beta with Alpha if you want: http://www.knowledgearcana.com//content/view/200/127/

One of the cool things about Traipse is, you can download the ZIP after installing it and run the software multiple times with very few problems. Just unzip it and it will create a folder called Traipse .. you can even rename it, run setup, and then run Traipse.pyw to run the software.

The newest alpha contains some the best features, no other OpenRPG version offers them. Newer images to make the GUI more appealing, a new Fetching image for image threading, and a new Failed image if the image fails to load.

Then there is EZ Tree. EZ Tree is a quick and easy way to create node references inside Lists, Grids, and Text nodes. I have the EZ Tree working without error in the current Alpha.

You can click the Traipse Movement link in my signature and read why people are using Traipse instead of Standard. It's just easier, more stable, and more advanced. And though I am the developer, that is not just me talking, that is a long list of users too.

When you saw the people playing your game with OpenRPG, do you mean you saw them while you were using OpenRPG or do you mean IRL?

At any rate always a good idea if you can to ask the game specific questions of those people who are already playing Infinitron. For example the miniatures / graphics / "Creatures" they are using you could just grab from them quite easily. They are a url to an image file and can be stored on the tree. If you see a "room" while looking through the servers on the OpenRPG list that looks like Infinitron then as long as the room is in black text not red that means it is public and you can enter the room just be double-clicking on it (or select it and hit "Enter room"). Just be polite about talking during a live game (eg whisper to a player) I would guess they would be happy to have more potential players.

Creating a room for yourself on a server is easy: when on the server hit the "create room" button. You need a room name but don't worry about the other stuff.

The player list is alist of what other OpenRPG players / clinets are logged in to the server lobby you are in, or else it is a list of who is in the same room when you enter a room.

The Behir is a set of example nodes for playing a dungeons and dragons like game but OpenRPG supports many different games. The people who are already playing Infitron using OpenRPG will have better ideas on how to use the features of OpenRPG for that specific game. it sounds like they use the map a lot, but with a hex grid. On the map there's a tab called "Grid" select that tab and there's a drop list that has "Hexagonal" as the grid type. Play around a bit with the interface and read prof.ebral's manual if you like.

You can also ask more questions here or of people in the lobbies on servers.

Hope that helped.
