Post OpenRPG behind a proxy
Ok guys I have an issue for the last year that I would like to get resolved. My OpenRPG my computer used to work but then I moved. Now I have to access the internet through a proxy server. The only information I could find on it is.

Quote:
Why can't I see any servers in the game browser list?

You may be connecting to the internet through a proxy server. You may need to set the environment variable http_proxy to your proxy server and port. For example: http_proxy#"http://www.someproxy.com:3128 The example above is taken from the python documentation. www.someproxy.com is the server address of your proxy and 3128 is the port used by the proxy. Please refer to your operating system documentation on how to set environment variables if you don't know how. Also refer to the proxy section of your web browser to find out what proxy server and port are used in your particular instance.

Well my issues is I am confused as to exacly where I look for this to change it? What file do I change or where do I go to find it, etc etc.

Any help would be awsome at getting my Open to work now. Please help!!

Post Re: OpenRPG behind a proxy
Ok so let me clarify this. I am behind a proxy. I have the proxy and the port. I just need to know how to get Open to recognize this. I know how to alter my environment variables now but I am really not sure what to put in there. The http_proxy#" thing is already inputted but still no functionality. I can plug the http://orpgmeta.appspot.com/ into my web browser and actually pull up a server list, but for some reason my OpenRPG just refuses to recognize it.

It was a windows environment Variable. However I am still having issues with Open not picking up my net connection. Jeez was Open designed by cave trolls like the rumor suggests? j/k but this is such a pain. I do still feel this is worth doing.

The thing here is that the wiki faq said to put the command as The http_proxy="http//your.proxyhere.com:port however the alternate info i found said to label it as simply http_proxy=http//your.proxyhere.com:port Knowing things like this I really think its necessary to find the propper command. Not to mention it may just be possible that i'm behind a hidden proxy too. If that's the case I may just be SOL. Unless i missed my guess that there is something I have to do to Open to get it to recognize the new variable

No. OpenRPG is an old program that has not seen development for some time. I develop the Traipse version and I admit the software is outdated. What is being used now had it's time in the sun, but now it needs a fresh look.

If the problem is not with OpenRPG I cannot help you right now. Maybe one of the developers for Standard can. I just don't have time to search the web for answer .. which you obviously can do so I am puzzled about your problem. :geek:

I assume that you're getting the server list dialog to come up OK but with no servers listed in it? And as you say you can access the metaserver by browser.

The wiki entry was probably written a while back... so we are guessing with apparently as much to go as you more or less, although if it comes to looking into the code then we'll be much more help.

I would say try both ways as it won't matter at all if you put some rubbish into the windows environment variable. You can always delete it afterwards. You're on windows, right? Setting the environment variable through the gui, right? So you end up with a little dialog and a text control. I would assume that you do no need the quotes then. Perhaps if the thing you were entering had internal spaces but it's a url so it won't. So try that. No quotation marks.

But presumably (though you didn't say so) you already have and it didn't work?
