Promo PC Node
I am including a PC Node sheet of the villain Mirkunoch. The node is compatible with the current Traipse Beta. The node is a promo for the XSLT Template that I have created and plan on selling on RPGNow for $2.00. The XSLT Template can be used with RPGXplorer to turn your PC's into OpenRPG nodes The XSLT Template will be released under the CCL-By-Sa. Attachment:
File comment: Mirkunoch - Promo
mirkunoch-2.zip [9.87 KiB]
Downloaded 657 times
Note: Please don't use the node with any other version of OpenRPG.

Re: Promo PC Node
What's the legal situation about slapping that into a plugin? My DM does similar stuff generating nodes from... used to be PCGen now I think he uses stat blocks (ie text string).

Re: Promo PC Node
Slapping what into a plugin? The XSLT Script?
Who cares? It's totally pointless because it requires RPGXplorer.

Re: Promo PC Node
If you want a better answer talk to an attorney .. but I don't except that to come free.
The XSLT Template is not GPL and it cannot be GPL. The XSLT Template only makes nodes that are compatible with OpenRPG .. it does not rely on any portion of OpenRPGs script.
If you are thinking that any content of the node's are GPL, such as the tags and elements, I am sorry, the Free Software Foundation has already made that clear to me. The Images and XML Files are considered an output and not a portion of the script.
You cannot legally "slap that into a plugin" because the CCL-By-Sa will conflict with the GPL. The nodes that are created are again an output so are not CCL-By-Sa.

Re: Promo PC Node
I asked the FSF again so I could get an official response. You need to liken the XML to the CSS of a Wordpress theme. While the Wordpress theme is GPL, the CSS and Images are just 'data' that is served. And the ID's and Classes of the CSS are just like the Elements and Tags of the XML file. Here is the response to Wordpress: http://wordpress.org/development/2009/0 ... e-gpl-too/For readers of this thread .. you should embrace this not shun it. Makers of games and modules will find OpenRPG much more inviting and possibly make some ready made modules if they and users understand that the module package is protected by copyright.

Re: Promo PC Node
I am still waiting for the answer to come back on this, but I might have another log on the fire.
The material provided in the basic nodehandlers may not even be considered protected by copyright. It maybe just considered a list of names, or such superficial content that no copyright can protect it. In effect the basic content is then Public Domain and even the GPL cannot surround it.

Re: Promo PC Node
The FSF completely waffled. The Copyright office did not. They would not give a solid answer, but they did recommend I take a look at Circular 61: http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ61.pdf so I could determine myself. After reading through Circular 61 I will consider the data in the template nodes to be unprotected by copyright because the template nodes are simply files which contain a 'concept' and a 'layout'.
