While that sounds interesting, I don't really like that idea. : /

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
Apparently a long post of mine dissapeared. In it I posted links to info about Arcana Evolved. You can do a google and find the info, look for the Arcana Evolved SRD wiki. It only has infor about classes and races, not rules, but it will give you an idea of what's in it. I like Malhavoc Press, so you won't have trouble convincing me to use it.
I also mentioned dropping the space travel idea and setting it on a single planet, making enough changes to the backstory to remove any extra-planetary issues.
I'm dropping True Sorcery from the list. The more I read, the less I like.
As far as ability scores go, I was never terribly fond of point buy systems. Again, when I post the vote, we'll go with whatever is most popular. We almost have enough interest to make me think this will be a go. I'll be making more informative posts soon.
Also, I just suffered a Hard Drive Crash, so I have to spend the next few days rebuilding my system. I'm back and running, but I have to find out what needs updating again, and what I lost when the drive went south. Most of my stuff was backed up, but not all. So if I don't respond quickly, it may just be that I'm busy with other things.
Lastly, I have read about the 3d6 variant. Part of me wants to keep things on the same baseline so new players can just jump in, but on the other hand, the resulting bell curve might do some interesting things to skill checks, and maybe make bonuses a bit more important. Nonetheless, it isn't for everyone. We probably won't use it, but thank you for bringing it up.

since we're gonna vote, i'm going to do my best to convince people of mine. point buy is superior to rolling stats, because all the players start out balanced. the only argument i can see against point buy is that it might create less varied characters to begin with, but imo it is simply not fun to have choices made for me. i don't roll my class randomly; why should i roll my abilities randomly? 3d6 is superior to d20 because it represents what people do in real life. In real life i don't have a 1-20 flat probability graph on skills i've practiced for years. it makes no sense. this argument is great http://forum.rpg.net/archive/index.php/t-245404.html(the second post is the one to which i'm referring. the first post is the argument in favor of 1d20) a compromise might be to use 3d6 for ability checks and skill checks and d20 for attack rolls and saving throws. i actually use this in my campaign(but if i were starting it again i would use 3d6 for all checks)

I agree with Tolen regarding the 3d6 variant. It sounds really interesting, it does, and I'd love to try it some time. However, there's already a lot of mixing up going on and it would be easier for new players if we tried to keep at least some of it close to 'normal'; whatever 'normal' is for D&D anyway.
For stats, I prefer to roll stats than to point buy, if only because I love dice. I'm actually sad to be playing online because the dice rolls will be mostly done by a machine and I won't get to roll all the nice pretty dice sets I've collected over the years. :(
Also, because that last paragraph probably sounds pretty gay otherwise, I'm a girl. Any other girls playing with us? :D
So sad to hear about your hard drive crashing. That sucks. :(

do we have any new players? if not, that argument is irrelevant.

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
Aruzo posted on page 3. They said that they were new to D&D. And even without Aruzo, I'm already trying out systems I've never tried before so I would like to keep some of the game to what I know. Not to mention keeping the game open so that other new players could join without feeling too intimidated.
This is my opinion, but I'm still willing to try the system out if the majority shows interest in it.

not to get too far offtopic here, but if one is unfamiliar with dnd, then really learning new stuff should be easier than if they have experience with it

i can't really add much more than what i already posted. if you want to roll abilities because you like rolling dice, and somehow months of sessions of combat is 12d6 short of what you need, then i can't convince you.
i probably will drop out if we roll abilities, cuz i don't really want to start out possibly insanely weaker than another player. if your solution to that is for me to roll again, then why not just use point buy if youre going to roll til you get what you want?

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset or insult you. :(
I should have worded that better. I like rolling dice because I like the randomness factor of it, not just because dice are pretty. If it makes you feel better, I am constantly made fun of at all of my games because I'm notorious for terrible rolls. The dice do not love me as much as I love them. XD
I'm that rogue that steps forward to disarm a trap and critically fails it only to have the room seal shut and zombies poor from hidden alcoves. True story.
Stats do not make or break a character, and often there are rules set in place where you can roll up a set number stat sets and pick one from them. You can still have a good character even with bad stats, bad stats might even make your character more interesting to play.
Most of the points I was making earlier were in objection to the 3d6 variant, however. I'm not opposed to a point buy system at all, I just prefer a dice rolling system. Point buy is fine with me if that's what the majority wants.

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
I will apologize in advance, I haven't slept in two days, for any statement that is construed as an insult or just plain stupid.
As far as ability scores go, I will always vote Point Buy over Die Rolls. I agree with Vash, in that if I plan a character I want to be able to plan everything including the stats. I don't enjoy playing low wisdom characters, even if it is hilarious. I don't like being the Ranger that sneaks across the grassland to the door of a fortress, managing to stay hidden from sight, just to knock on the door. The door was open. Why don't I go in? Well, it's just not polite.
I have never used the 3D6 Variant, but I'm willing to go with the majority.
Tolen - Just curious, what is your prefered Ability Score system?
Another quick question, what classes does everyone want to play? I know Vash has said a Construct creating Wizard. I prefer rogue, but I'll wait till everyone has decided what to play and then I will fill the open slots (if there are any).
